Dy03 Flapper

The Pigeon Decoy Flapper is a small, compact, versatile and lightweight electronic decoy. It has been designed to be used with a dead bird.

The unit is powered by a small 12 volt re-chargeable battery which is approximately the size of a packet of cigarettes. The battery will power the flapper typically for 6-8 hours continual use. The package also includes a telescopic ground spike for mounting the unit on the ground and an intermittent timer unit which remotely switches the flapper on and off.

With this unit the shooter can set the time delay when the unit is not flapping from 5 or 10 to 15 seconds. After the pre-set “off time” the unit will then automatically start flapping again for 5 seconds and then stop again for the pre-set time.

We have not limited you to using the flapper on the ground. The universal fitting on the bottom of the unit allows you to set the flapper up on a Rotary decoy machine, on a bouncer/glider shaft, or on lofting poles. The principle is very simple but its effectiveness has been described as deadly. For conventional use the flapper is mounted on the ground spike with the intermittent controller within your decoy pattern. The motion of the flapper is used to rapidly raise and lower the decoys wings. From a distance this creates a very eye catching flashing effect as the wings on the decoy rise up and down. The effect is twofold. Firstly it attracts attention to your decoy pattern to pigeons which may not have seen your decoys and would normally have drifted by. Secondly it increases the confidence of incoming birds by simulating a bird landing in your decoys safely.

When the unit is mounted on a glider/bouncer it is up high and free to bounce in the wind and can be used to simulate a bird approaching your decoys preparing to land. The advantage of this is that the flapper can be used to guide pigeons into a specific place on a field from a flight line with extra confidence… particularly useful when circumstances do not allow you to setup your hide and decoys in the most optimum place on the field.

The Flapper can also be mounted on lofting poles in ‘sitty-trees’. This can have particular effectiveness when shooting over winter rape or on windless days where birds tend to land in trees before they commit to a decoy pattern. Simply setup a decoy pattern near or underneath the ‘sitty-tree’ using one or two flappers with some static lofting birds.
